Our history
A LEGACY OF COURAGE
1946
A Community Responds
Following a tragic residential fire, residents from surrounding Black communities organized to create a fire service that would protect their neighbors.
A HISTORIC FIRST
Breaking Barriers in Maryland
Chapel Oaks became known as Maryland's first all-Black volunteer fire department, creating a lasting place in the history of the state's fire service.
